Private Eye is probably the closest British publication to the Onion (See 13th March post) - but it is much more. The magazine has a serious side - exposing abuse of power - be it by politicians or the media. As a result of British libel law - it has been subject to a number of legal actions and threats of legal action.Sometimes I can be greatly annoyed by Private Eye - but thank goodness we have freedom of the press. I'll gladly put up with a bit of irritation - for the value of a magazine which can expose abuses of power. Sadly the mainstream media is more interested in celebratory gossip. Abuse of power is more serious. (and by the way - thanks to Sarah & Matt, I enjoy a subscription)
